Water Leak Detection

Don’t Let Small Leaks Become Big Problems
Water leaks can be slow killers, and leaks are also one of the most frustrating and inconvenient problems in your home. There are few things more destructive to a home than a water leak that has gone unnoticed for a long time. If left alone and unchecked, a leak can ruin floors and walls, pose a risk to the structural integrity of a building, and cause health concerns due to the formation of mold and mildew. On top of all that, the price you must pay in terms of repairs and utility costs can be extraordinarily high.

Common Types & Signs of Plumbing Leaks
While these may not all point directly to a leak, they are strong signs that something is wrong with your plumbing system. We recommend having a reliable plumber inspect your pipes and identify the problem to help prevent the leak from creating further damage.
Warm spots on the floor
A sudden spike in your water bill
Dripping faucet despite no taps in use
Mildew or mold growth in unexpected areas
Damaged floors, walls, paint, or wallpapers
Stains on the ceiling
Musty odors
Water meter continues to run when no faucets are on
If you notice any of these signs in your home or business, contact Scout Plumbing.

Techniques Used for Water Leak Detection
Several methods can be used for detecting, locating, and fixing water leaks. To repair a damaged pipe, we use various technologies and methods for leak detection:
Acoustic leak detectors
Locating leaks by sound? Acoustic technology is a more accurate method of pinpointing leaks. Sensors capture any sound within the pipes. It locates the leak wherever the noise is loudest.
Infrared Cameras
This helps identify water movement and determine the water temperature. While infrared technology will not pinpoint the exact location of a leak, it is an effective companion to other equipment such as acoustic leak detectors.
Gas Tracers
This method is used when acoustic equipment cannot detect the leak (often because of an extensive and deep pipe or in areas with loud background noise such as industrial sites). First, a mix of hydrogen and nitrogen is fed into the pipe; then, a special sensor traces the gas as it escapes out of the leak. The gas is non-toxic and poses no harm to your potable water system.
When It Comes To Leak Detection, Trust The Professionals
It’s important to make sure you hire a professional plumber to take care of any leaks at your home, particularly if they are slab leaks. Water leak detection involves various procedures and the use of professional equipment to find the source of the leak, which can be notoriously difficult to do.
